Alitalia name origin

Didn't you always wonder where the Alitalia name is coming from?

ALITALIA - Always Late In Takeoff Always Late In Arrival

or even:

ALITALIA - Air Line In Tokyo And Luggage In Amsterdam

Does it all make sense now?

Damn, if only I had know that in advance, I would not have flown with Alitalia. So my luggage is somewhere in Amsterdan eh? This airline truly sucks -- it's too bad they are still in business.

Hi,
I just want to say that the fact that Alitalia is such a crap airline it is because in the last 50 years it has been a typical italian government company driven by political patronage and clientelism rules. The extremely corrupt ‘mafiosi’ Italian politicians (which actually represent 100% of the Italian parliament, senate, region etc etc) have just given the Alitalia position to unprofessional and most of the time IGNORANT people (I am talking about people that can’t open an e-mail or speak proper Italian) in exchange of votes or just because they were relatives or friends. Since the main income of Alitalia was the (pour) people tax money they have (or used to have) ridiculous salaries. I am talking twice the salary of a teacher! Just to be a STUPID unprofessional waiter!!!. And because these politicians need more and more votes they have been creating these no-needed Alitalia positions which explain why there are approx 6000 extra useless positions. I have to say that this typical Italian way to manage a government company apply to all the Italian government institutions including Bank, University etc etc..
So rather than get rid of Alitalia we should first ban any Italian to be a POLITICIAN or to manage big government companies as history is teaching that Italians are useless in managing!!
Regards
