Bye-Bye Alitalia...

AirFrancce-KLM has taken the green light from the Italian government to place a bid for failing Alitalia and is now trying to approach the Italian carrier's unions.

AirFrance-KLM has already promised cash injections into the loss-making airline, but the real issue, for both the carrier's unions and Alitalia's Chairman, seems to be the Franco-Dutch airline's intention to get rid of the loss-making 'AZ Servizi' unit of Alitalia - but obviously for different reasons.

Promises from the Franco-Dutch airline went as a combined AirFrance-KLM-Alitalia group to be listed on the Milan stock exchange.

But just to remind us that there is no black and white in business, Mr Spinetta has also confirmed that if the merge of the two airlines completes successfully, there will be a need to eliminate approximately 1,700 jobs.

PS: That was the good news from me, guys! ;)

I have also "just" requested a refund from Alitalia. They would not give us any help what-so-ever in helping us to get checked in at the Rome airport (and this was 2hrs before our flight time) Our flight took off with out us and cost us $4,200 for 2 new tickets to ORD! Now Alitalia is "not" wanting to refund our original tickets that cost us $875 each. So do the math on what that joke of an airline cost us to get home from our "thats right" Honeymoon! If you decide to use this airline... I Hope You Remember Reading This! You'll be a honorary club member!

We had to make a change on our tickets which cost us $920 but when we went to leave Rome they were on strike so we were delayed an entire day getting home. (Our flight was initially changed an entire day leaving and then coming home as well) It doesn't sound like my efforts in getting a refund on the change fee has any chance!! The service is horrible, the agents unfriendly and the flight attendants barely work and are rude. This is a failing business, with unhappy customers and employees. When they cancelled our flight from Rome to ORD we had to wait an hour and a half to get our luggage, just to stand in line for another two and a half hours to get rebooked on another flight.
Don't book with them, even if the fare initially might be cheaper.
